Marble Arch Regeneration Proposal

Marble Arch Regeneration Proposal

The Portman Estate has secured support from London First for its regeneration vision for Marble Arch, to transform the area into a high-quality, safe civic space to use and travel through.

Marble Arch is the western gateway to the West End.  It is Oxford Street’s connection to Hyde Park, Edgware Road and Park Lane.  Working in collaboration with Marble Arch London Business Improvement District (BID), the proposal aims to improve road safety, create better walking and cycling connections, alongside an accessible and healthier environment with improved air quality.  It also looks to introduce new greening, enhanced park access and improved tube access, including a step-free ticket hall and better bus connections.

The proposed scheme respects the role of the inner ring road and tackles safety, the environment and the rebalancing of public space towards pedestrians and cyclists.  The design reconnects Oxford Street to the Royal Park and to Edgware Road creating further opportunities for Speakers’ Corner, a major step change in the quality of civic amenity, environmental and public health enhancements.  It will also provide a much needed boost to the economies of both the western end of Oxford Street and the Edgware Road.

The proposal represents an Option Study for discussion.  We hope you will join us in supporting this proposal as it moves to the next stage of review by the GLA, TfL and Westminster City Council.  The time is right to seek positive change for Marble Arch as TfL and WCC progress new transport policies for the Inner Ring Road and new ambitions for Oxford Street District.
