Are you seriously interested in your Marylebone place? (Regency house, Edwardian mansion flat, 1920s in-fill)Are you seriously interested in your street: the design of the whole terrace, the square, the railings, the lot. Do you want to know who can restore your fanlight or your cornices properly (and hear awful warnings about what not to do) Do you want to see what other local people have done with their houses and flats - and perhaps show off your own). Are your gripped by the history of the area (I've had two 'house histories' done in the same Marylebone street and they were both wonderful cross-cuts of two centuries, chock full of detail and, by any light, amazing value) Do you want to meet similarly afflicted people and talk and share and go walkabout locally?
I'm proposing to set up a Marylebone House Club to do just this. Get in touch if you're interested in helping, sharing, joining, whatever. We'll need someone deeply organised to run things, a place to meet, eventually perhaps even a web-site. We've already got a wonderful group - The Marylebone Association - fighting the good fight on the big issues like crime, noise and reviewing planning applications, and anyone with the remotest interest in the way the area develops should belong to it, What I'm suggesting is something that starts with the details of local domestic interiors and what you can do with them by co-operating with your neighbours.

Britain's architectural heritage is one of the nation's greatest assets and the Georgian period (broadly 1700-1837) gave us some of our most beautiful buildings. The Georgian Group is the national charity dedicated to preserving Georgian buildings and gardens. Every year we are consulted on over 6,000 planning applications involving demolition or alterations. Our intervention has helped save many Georgian buildings and protect others from unsympathetic alterations. It is often through our influence that a better solution is found. We need your support, so please consider joining us in 2007 as we celebrate seventy years of active campaigning.
