Marble Arch was designed by John Nash in 1828 to be the main entrance to Buckingham Palace. It was moved to the corner of Hyde Park where it stands today at the junction of Ocford Street and Great Cumberland Place in 1851 when an extension was built to Buckingham Palace leaving insufficient space for the arch.
Tradition still only allows Senior members of the Royal Family, the Royal Horse Artillery and the kings Troop to pass underneath the Arch.
Speakers Corner behind Marble Arch celebrates and recognises freedom of speech on all debatable religious and political topics. This is a very interesting place to be on a Sunday when different opinions are voiced at the same time in the one place by a very mixed variety of speakers creating a harmony of sound.
The London Zoo is located at the north-east corner of Regent's Park on the Outer Circle.
